WHAT IS BALUSTRADE?
1. Balustrade is a rail supported by balusters, especially forming parapet to balcony, terrace, etc.
2. A barrier system which includes handrails, newels and balusters. A railing that consists of a series of balusters resting on a base, usually the treads, and supporting a continuous horizontal stair or hand rail.

WHAT ARE STRINGERS?
1. The supporting members which run the length of the stairway on which treads, risers and balustrade are mounted.
2. A long piece of timber in a construction, especially a heavy and principal one, usually horizontal.
